How Much Does Vietnam Cost to Travel As a Couple? ($50/day)

One of our biggest questions before going was simple: How much does Vietnam cost to travel as a couple?

I spent hours researching, scrolling through blogs, and hunting down hotel and transport prices. All I wanted was a clear idea of what our budget should be, what we’d really spend, and how much we needed to save.

To make things easier for other travellers, I decided to track every single cost. And I mean everything — from street food snacks to long-haul buses. That way, you get a realistic, no-fluff Vietnam travel budget you can actually use.

Our Vietnam Trip Overview

Our Vietnam adventure looked a little different from most travellers. We spent just under six weeks in the country in late 2023, but this trip focused almost entirely on the north.

Why? Back in 2020, we travelled south to north, ticking off the classic tourist spots. But thanks to the pandemic, we never made it to Ha Long Bay or the far north. This time, we set out to dig deeper — into mountain towns, hidden valleys, and winding motorbike loops we’d missed the first time.

Dates: 7th November – 19th December 2023
Length: 45 days (we made full use of that visa exemption!)
Travel style: Budget-conscious couple, mid-range comfort with a few splurges (hello, Ha Long Bay cruise)
Areas visited: Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, Ninh Binh, Pu Luong, Moc Chau, Son La, Mu Cang Chai, Sapa, Ha Giang, Cao Bang, Ba Be Lake, Hoi An, Da Nang
